Briac Artaud – Managing Partner, Alphéa Conseil Nantes

After 25 years of experience in the retail sector, I am convinced that the performance of our business models depends above all on the quality of human relations. I have always maintained this philosophy throughout my career, drawing on skills that have enabled me to build genuine relationships of trust with the various partners I have encountered:
Leadership & giving meaning:
Department manager in hypermarkets:
Over the years, I have come to appreciate hands-on management: being at the heart of the action and listening to my teams, creating a climate of trust, promoting cohesion and thus enabling performance. I have coached teams of up to 100 people in various stores in the Nantes metropolitan area and have also led large-scale projects in merchandising policy and product range structuring with the national purchasing centre.
Supporting and being innovative:
Involvement in the Nantes Métropole HR/CSR Committee:
Since 2015, I have been a CSR ambassador and, in this capacity, I support executives, associations and SMEs in their recruitment processes and in promoting their attractiveness as employers. For example, in 2021, I integrated an association - Soli Food Waste - and a local ESAT (centre providing support through employment for people with disabilities) into a hypermarket, promoting products destined for disposal, thus illustrating a commitment to a positive CSR footprint that promotes inclusion and paves the way for ‘anti-waste’.
Proximity and trust-based relationships
Representation in various political and economic bodies :
- I participated in regional work on the Economic Modernisation Act (LME) in 2008, dealing with the impact of commercial negotiations between SMEs and distribution groups, a multi-sector initiative that requires listening and a pragmatic approach with very different stakeholders: local businesses, the General Council and large retailers.
- In 2020, I joined the local partners committee of the Nantes-Saint-Nazaire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where I actively promoted short supply chains at round tables and conferences. My sense of closeness to my clients is one of my priorities: I strive to get to know their businesses and teams well, which strengthens our relationships. Les Coteaux Nantais and LASF (specialising in smoked salmon) have highlighted the positive impact of this approach during our discussions.
Cooperation and commitment
Member of the Produits en Bretagne network:
Since 2005, I have helped establish win-win commercial relationships between SMEs and large retailers: starting with around thirty companies, we now work with 150 companies in the greater West region.
We have created commercial operations, B2B and B2C trade fairs, discussions between distributors and farmers/processors to improve commercial relations, an experience of this scale that is still unprecedented in France.
I have been able to support companies such as Guyader, Altho, Coreff, Brasserie de Bretagne and Maison Hermine, helping them to grow over the last 20 years.
Collaboration and strategic vision
Regional Expert for the West in the Wine and Spirits Market:
Since 2012, I have mobilised the management teams of the 25 stores in the greater Auchan West region around the brand's strategic objectives.
I have also been able to support regional companies in developing their business by listing them nationally, such as Bouvet Ladubay, Akermann, Ets Bourre et Fils, Kerisac, Ets Guillet
, etc., offering them access to the national market and supporting them in structuring and coaching their sales teams.
