Are you fluent in #Hashtag?

Twitter is becoming a way of life, but its language, not always! Yet, thanks to Twitter's 15 million monthly visitors, speaking the #hashtag can be a big bonus for your career! To find out a little more or check your knowledge, follow the guide ...

Finding the hashtags that work for you

How is your industry represented? Who are the people in your business on Twitter? Which companies in your sector are present on Twitter? What are they tweeting? Are all these questions yours? You're right! This is how you'll make discoveries.

Hashtags are used to classify conversations. To find them, you can try a few keywords in the search bar (next to your profile photo). So, if I type BTP, I discover that there's a #BTP hashtag. If I follow it, I'm taken to a page featuring Top Tweets, recent Tweets, people (and companies) working in construction, videos and more. The whole world of construction on Twitter is here! All you have to do is spot the companies, people or ads you want.

You can also find popular hashtags by going to http://hashtagify.me/ Enter a word in the search bar and you'll see the associated words displayed in circles. By placing your cursor over the circles (without clicking), you'll obtain the popularity (in percentage) of these associated words. Related tweets are also displayed on the right.

Find and follow companies

To continue with the word BTP, if I select the PRO BTP Group from the people page, I discover that this company tweets both with #BTP but also with #PROBTP. By using #PROBTP, I can view all the tweets, find out what's going on with the company, what trade show it's currently attending, etc.

To identify company accounts in the BTP sector, you can also Google "List of accounts to follow on Twitter BTP", it also works great! And it works in the vast majority of sectors.

When a tweet corresponds to information that's important to you, you'll be able to retweet it. That's how you can start connecting with those who interest you

Monitor job offers

Once you've found the hashtags for your job families and sectors, here are the top job-related hashtags right now (analyzed with www.talkwalker.com)

#emploi #jobs #offreEmploi #votrejob #merciRT #i4emploi (This is a humanist network, helping job seekers) #i4emploiR

By following these hashtags, you'll find job offers. It's estimated that 15-20% of job offers are on Twitter. The most represented professions are sales and marketing, and it's between 9 and 10 a.m. that offers are most widely circulated.

Creating an account and speaking out

To take advantage of offers and make contacts and if you haven't already, you need to create a bio for yourself on Twitter. Be sure to include your city, a photo and a short bio. Add keywords (hastags) to your bio. They'll set the tone, enabling people who view your profile to quickly understand who you are and why you're on Twitter.

Avoid direct contact. Unlike other networks, they're not necessarily well received on Twitter.

Communicating on Twitter requires a bit of tact

Be careful not to tweet about everything and anything. You can tweet about one or two of your passions, but don't relay everything that interests you, otherwise you'll drown your main message (your job search and/or career) in a flood.

We've seen that you can start by retweeting the messages of those who interest you. The idea is to interact with other users in order to engage them.

Once you're comfortable, you can tweet articles you like and comment on current events.

Once you've got the hang of things, you can even tweet a mini format CV to groups and companies you've identified.
