Performance which, although significantly below national figures, shows an increase from over 430,000 at the end of 2020, to almost 450,000 at the end of 2021. Thus, 12% of managers in mainland France are employed in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

Sectors recruiting in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes

65% of recruitments in Rhône-Alpes take place in services. Furthermore, the industry occupies a special place in the region, since the employment rate in this sector is higher than the national average. Thus, in 2021, executive employment in Rhône-alpine Industry represented18% of hires, compared with 12% at national level.

But trade (10%) and construction(7%) are also sectors providing many executive jobs.

The size of companies hiring...

7 out of 10 executive recruitments take place in SMEs, which is significantly higher than at national level, where 66% of executive recruitments take place in SMEs,
as opposed to 34% in IPEs and large companies.

The most sought-after executive roles

The top 5 executive hires in 2021 feature R&D studies (20%) in first place. Close behind are sales and marketing (19%), IT (18%), production industrielle-chantier (13%), andadministration (9%).

Let's also note the presence in the territory of tertiary functions (8%), technical services (7%), and finance (4%).

Executives yes, but which profiles?

With regard to the profile of executives recruited, half of all new hires involve executives with less than five years' experience. These figures are absolutely identical throughout France. Thus, managers with 1 to 5 years' experience represent 33% of recruitments made in 2021, in the Rhône-Alpes region, as at national level.

What trend for 2022?

At the end of the first half of 2022, a trend seems to be emerging.

There has been a net increase in the number of executive job vacancies, even exceeding the pre-health crisis level. Thus, while job offers were around 20,000 in the first quarter of 2019 in the Rhône-Alpes Region, they are estimated to be close to 25,000 in the first quarter of 2022. This represents an increase in executive job offers of almost 23%.

In terms of sector, the biggest recruiter is IT development. In the first quarter of 2022, this sector is home to 2,090 job offers. Next come accounting (779 offers), business engineering (722 offers), IT infrastructures and systems (673 offers) and IT project management (632 offers)

With the conflict in Ukraine, doubt hangs over second-half figures... The sharp increase in the cost of raw materials and energy could impact the balance of trade and, as a result, recruitment...

However, hiring intentions remain reassuring, with many companies planning to recruit at least one executive over the next three months. This is particularly the case in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, where the recovery dynamic is significantly more intense than the national average.

That said, some companies are still experiencing recruitment difficulties. A phenomenon that can be explained by a combination of factors:

    • Skills shortages in certain professions (IT, among others)
    • The company's geographical location (rural, landlocked, border territory...)
    • The lack of attractiveness of certain sectors (construction, ...)
    • The size of companies
    • HR practices
    • New candidate requirements (especially teleworking, which is increasingly in demand)

Despite some points of vigilance to watch out for, executive employment thus appears to be in relatively good health in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.
