Industry, a sector that creates jobs!

In a difficult socio-economic context, affected by inflation and supply difficulties, industry is one of the many sectors that continues to recruit, despite difficulties in attracting candidates. Indeed, the sector suffers mainly from a deficit in attractiveness and a lack of awareness of its professions.

That's why, on the occasion of the "Industry Week", a nationwide operation, companies in the sector opened their doors to the public. This 11th edition, which ran from November 21 to 27, 2022, was themed "Acting for an industry of the future", focusing on topics such as innovation, ecological transition, gender diversity in the workplace, and the circulair economy.

A great opportunity to (re)discover this recruiting sector!

1. Industrial employment on the rise

According to INSEE, we're seeing an increase in salaried jobs in industry in 2022, with 3,800 jobs in Q1 and 10,100 jobs in Q2 2022, i.e. 6300 additional jobs. As a result, industrial employment (excluding temp work) rose by 1.1% year-on-year, returning to its pre-crisis level.

In addition, according to the Urssaf economic barometer, hiring declarations of more than one month are up + 6.4% in September 2022 and + 13.1% over one year. An increase of + 22.3%, compared to the start of the health crisis, in February 2020.

With 280,000 recruitment projects, according to Pôle emploi's latest BMO survey
, representing over 55,000 positions to be filled, industry is one of the sectors that is recruiting in large numbers.

2. A highly diversified sector

With 260,000 companies, the industry is made up of 90% SMEs and VSEs. It includes no fewer than 19 sectors, such as aeronautics, new energy systems industries, healthcare industries and technologies, marine industries, digital infrastructures, agrifood etc....

The range of careers to be discovered is both rich and heterogeneous, with positions such as draughtsman-projector, electromechanic, R&D manager, quality engineer, boilermaker, head of a hydraulic plant group, production technician, ICPE design manager, electrician (M/F)...

Alphéa Conseil offers numerous job offers in the field, with a search engine that allows you to target only jobs in the industry, if these are your criteria. Whatever the industry, there are plenty of positions still to be filled.

3. A new look at industry professions

The semaine de l'industrie is also an opportunity to deconstruct received ideas about the sector and its professions. So being an employee in industry doesn't necessarily mean being employed in a factory, or working on an assembly line, or polluting the planet! Many professions are related to the outside world, and many involve diversified missions. What's more, the professions have become much more feminized, and working conditions have become easier thanks to the use of adapted technologies and automation.

In addition, the sector is undergoing full change, following a dynamic of relocalization and reindustrialization of the territory to preserve its competitiveness.
Parallel to this, we are witnessing an acceleration in the digitalization and ecological transformation of industrial activities.

Today, in addition to jobs in maintenance and production, needs are also moving towards research and development, innovation, custom manufacturing to meetnew consumer trends, or environmental preservation.

4. Recruitment needs in the industrial sector

From the companies' point of view, Industry Week is an excellent opportunity to make themselves known, to develop their attractiveness and their network. In particular, this involves encouraging young people to join dedicated training courses, and motivating candidates to join their workforce. To meet recruitment needs, no fewer than 1,800 jobdating sessions have been planned during this nationwide operation!

Also, in a sector where 61.6% of recruitments are deemed difficult, according to Pôle emploi's latest BMO survey, companies would do well to seek out the services of recruitment professionals to help them with their recruitment projects

5. A look back at an Industry Week rich in discoveries

Different actions took place throughout France during Industry Week, to raise awareness of the professions and sectors that are recruiting.

Among the many events scheduled, company visits were organized to welcome the general public and give them a concrete idea of professions and the working environment. By opening their doors, the companies were able to meet their employees, industry professionals who were available to talk and answer questions. To stimulate interest from an early age, film reports on the discovery of industrial professions were viewed by secondary school students, as well as by jobseekers and people undergoing professional retraining.
