7 mistakes not to make for a successful job interview
Are you wondering how to ace the interview for that job that attracts so many? You really want to get that job, you're motivated but.... The job interview is just around the corner! Don't panic, to guide you, our teams Alphéa Conseil reveal the 7 mistakes not to make to succeed in your videoconference or face-to-face interview.
1. Unfamiliarity with the company
You want to please the recruiter, don't you?
Then show that you're genuinely interested in the position you've applied for. Romy from recruitment firm Alphéa Conseil in St Brieuc advises you to do some research beforehand on the name of the recruiting company. Concentrate on the company's values, how it works, its customers... This way, you prove that you're attentive and already involved.
2. Blurred salary expectations
Do you know the average salary for the position and sector you're applying for? If the answer is no, this is a mistake.
In fact, it's essential to properly define your salary expectations with regard to the skills required and your expertise. Our Alphéa Conseil teams have lost count of the number of candidates who are hesitant about this question. And yet, it also enables us to check whether your salary ambitions are in line with the company's possibilities.
We therefore advise you to clearly prepare this question, with a net and gross value, annual and monthly.
3. Misunderstanding of the position
Did you fully understand the essence of the position to be filled? Is it a sedentary or itinerant position? Is it a temporary or permanent contract? Check whether the job title is clear to you, and if necessary ask to support certain passages during the interview.
4. Inconsistency in his expectations
Be clear and precise about your expectations. The clearer you are about your intentions, expectations and capabilities, the more the recruiter will understand who you are. If your profile corresponds well to the company's expectations, and your expectations also match the position to be filled, the context for hiring is ideal.
5. Sloppy appearance
Put yourself in the recruiter's shoes. He doesn't know anything about you, apart from what's written on your CV. His role is to define whether or not you're potentially an ideal candidate for the company. To do this, he has to base himself on the verbal answers to his questions, but also on the context.
Your appearance on the big day is important. Not to judge or criticize your style or personality, but indeed to prove and show that you've understood what the company wants. That you're able to adaptand match what's expected of you.
Thus, our consultants suggest that you:
"Don't forget that presentation is very important, even during a video interview. Having an outfit that corresponds to the position you're offering is a plus ( for example: avoid wearing a sweater for an accounting position...).
6. Choice of strategic location
Your choice of environment also matters in videoconferencing. Be attentive to the setting from which you receive the call, to avoid blunders, we advise you then:
"Avoid Skype interviews with the "jump out of bed" look or in an uninsulated room (right in the middle of the living room while Monsieur is cooking dinner, #dejàvécu). Some people feel that the interview with the recruitment firm is not decisive and don't attach as much importance to it as if they had to go to the end customer. "
7. Lighthearted attitude
Finally, avoid nonchalant or light attitudes... Chewing gum, yawning to the crows or constantly looking at your cell phone during maintenance are all bad practices.
These little details can make all the difference in a job interview! Think about it!
Finally, keep in mind that the job interview is the perfect time to show who you are. What you're worth, what you can bring to the hiring company. So don't neglect your preparation or even your presentation. It's up to you!
